Providing an adequate intake of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in the diet of pregnant andlactating women is very important because this is predominant fatty acid building such struc-tures as central nervous system and retina. Last decade has brought a lot of interesting rese-arch showing the importance in healthy pregnancy, fetal development as well as so the laterlife of the child. Particularly those long-term projects should encourage to even broaden viewat the importance of DHA and wider recommendations during pregnancy and lactation. Dueto a lot of data based on different doses of DHA used in research, the key issue is determinethe proper, effective and safe dosage this ingredient during pregnancy and lactation. In thepapers, which closely describe the mechanisms of action omega-3, it is paid attention to therole of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). The key question today is not only the dosage of DHAbut also whether DHA and EPA administered together and in what proportions.
