Positron emission tomography with 18F-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose (FDG PET) is a noninvasive functional imaging modality which is based on metabolic characteristics of active cancer tissue. PET can be useful in differentiating benign and malignant lesions. It allows to identify women with recurrent disease. FDG-PET has an important role in detecting lymph node involvement and distant metastases. Combined PET/CT can help in localizing lesions. PET is a useful technique for primary diagnosis, staging and re-staging in gynecologic oncology.
